Are we a tax exempt 501c3 non profit organization?
As of January 11, 2016, the US government has granted The Black Jaguar-White Tiger™ Foundation the 501c3 status which means we are exempt from federal income tax. Donors can deduct the contributions they make to us under IRC section 170. We are also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055. 2106. or 2522. We are determined to be a public charity.
Are we a licensed Sanctuary?
ABSOLUTELY. The Black Jaguar-White Tiger™ Foundation is accredited by the Mexican Government as a Premises or facilities managing wildlife (Predios o Instalaciones que Manejan Vida Silvestre PIMVS). Founded in the articles 27, 26 and 32 bis of the Constitution with the internal ruling of SEMARNAT. This incorporation is granted to perform maintenance activities, protection, research and environmental education, through social networks, of the different species that we host.
This dependence has made the analysis of the management plan submitted concluding that meets specified in Article 78a of the General law of wildlife.
Why do we always have so many cubs?
We always have babies because breeding facilities are still allowed to function in Mexico, something that the Mexican Government and us are trying to change.
To raise a cub is a very expensive and hard thing to do, both technically and time consuming. Sometimes, when a first time mom at a breeding facility rejects her litter (80 percent of the time they reject them), they contact us to see if we would like to take care of them WITHOUT PAYING FOR THEM.
Being the most famous Sanctuary on the Planet, we are also contacted every week, specially during mating season by an individual that decided to buy a Lion or a Tiger to have as a pet. To buy a Lion cub in Mexico is very cheap, so sometimes, we spend 2 or 3 times the money of what a Lion cub costs in the market just to transport the cub to our facilities since they come from all over the country.
We are the only Sanctuary in Mexico for Big Felines and we DO NOT have a license to breed or sell Animals. We would be shut down by the Government @semarnat_mx immediately we were to breed Lions and Tigers.
Do we sell our rescues?
No. We DO NOT sell our rescues. Animals are not something to be owned as property. They are living beings, just like you and me, and should be treated accordingly. We rescue Animals from circumstances forced upon them by this cruel world and give them the closest thing to the life that they deserve.
Where do our Animals go once we have rehabilitated them?
We currently have 2 stages: Stage 1 is the nursery equivalent. If we rescue an Animal at a young age they are properly cared for in a smaller home setting where they can be constantly monitored and fed every couple of hours with a more friendly weather. They are constantly getting human warmth and attention so they can develop and grow in a nurtured and loving environment. Stage 2 and 2b consist of 120 Acres of land (We have only built 30) for our babies to run freely and safely without harming one another or risking danger. Stage 3 is coming soon. It will be hundreds of Acres for our babies to live their lives happily, free of poachers, and safe from the other dangers and threats that society has placed on the environment.
Does The Black Jaguar-White Tiger Foundation spay/neuter their rescues?
ABSOLUTLEY NOT. None of our kids are spayed or neutered unless they come to us like that. We prefer to use less invasive methods and technologies, the safest method is to separate the female from the male when she is in heat. Another option that we use is giving birth control injections every six months to females. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, we would Love that someday in the future our rescues could help repopulate the Jaguar, Lion, Tiger and Leopard population in the wild. It is very easy to spay or neuter them, but perhaps in 10 years or so things will change and we would have recovered their natural habitat. ALWAYS THINK BIG. ALWAYS…
Will we ever send our rescues back into the wild?
This is a common and misleading question. Unfortunately, none of our rescues have ever set foot into the wild because humans forced them into lives of captivity since birth. So the answer is no. We will not send them back into the wild, because they were never there in the first place and their chances of survival in an unfamiliar ambient would be low. The bigger issue here is that the wild is disappearing at an exponential rate. It would seem that the majority of humanity has made it their mission to destroy our Mother Earth. If this continues, the “wild” will no longer exist. Help us raise awareness of this issue and do everything you can to protect our planet. It all starts with you…
How can you get involved with the Foundation and work with the rescues? Is there a volunteer program?
We do not have an active volunteer program at The Foundation but if this were to change we will let our following know via social media.
We do encourage all our supporters to pitch in by helping us spread the word on environmental responsibility and the damage we are doing to the planet. If we all advocate ourselves to teaching people to take care of our planet we can still save it.
